New Hunger Games Prequel: Sunrise on the Reaping
A new prequel for The Hunger Games is being made! It’s called Sunrise on the Reaping. This story will take place 24 years before the events of the original trilogy.
What We Know So Far
Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, is writing a new book titled Sunrise on the Reaping. This book will come out in 2025. The movie adaptation of the book will be in theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who has directed Hunger Games movies since Catching Fire in 2013, might direct this new film too.
The Story of Sunrise on the Reaping
Sunrise on the Reaping will bring us back to Panem, the world of The Hunger Games. The story begins on the day of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. This takes place 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 24 years before the original trilogy.
The main character will be Haymitch Abernathy, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the previous films. Haymitch later becomes a mentor to Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the 74th Hunger Games.

The Success of The Hunger Games Films
The Hunger Games movies have been very successful, making over $3.3 billion worldwide. Catching Fire made the most money, with $865 million. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes didn’t do as well as the original movies but still made a profit because of its budget. This film focused on a young Coriolanus Snow, who later becomes the leader of Panem.
